Minor scales: the scale of D minor

The approach to get minor scales is exactly the same, with the difference that the distances between the tones are different. Earlier we saw:

Distances in major scale: W-W-H-W-W-W-H.
Distances in minor scale: W-H-W-W-H-W-W.

We'll look at the scale of D minor.

The root notes starting at D:

Scale of D minor root tones

The distances:

Scale of D minor root tones with distances

We want the distances to be W-H-W-W-H-W-W, so these are the ones that should be corrected:

Scale of D minor root tones with errors

The solution is to lower the B to B flat (Bb):

Scale of D minor

The scale of C minor

One more: the scale of C minor

The root notes starting at C:

Scale of C minor root tones

The distcances:

Scale of C minor root tones with distances

We want the distances to be W-H-W-W-H-W-W, so these are the ones that should be corrected:

Scale of C minor root tones with errors

The solution: lower the E (Eb), lower the A (Ab) and lower the B (Bb).

Scale of C minor
